Teen killed, another person flown to the hospital in Warren County crash
CLEARCREEK TOWNSHIP, Ohio (WKRC) - A drive to school turns deadly for a local teenager. He crashed his car on Tuesday morning in Warren County.
It has been a tough day at Dayton Christian School. Grief counselors were on hand meeting with students and staff. They are mourning the death of Tommy Williamitis, a sophomore who was killed Tuesday morning in a horrific car crash.
Troopers with the Ohio Highway Patrol say 16-year-old Tommy Williamitis was driving his car when he went left of center on Ohio 48 and struck two other vehicles.
Willliamitis was pronounced dead at the scene. One other person was airlifted to Miami Valley Hospital.
It's believed Willliamitis was on his way to Dayton Christian School when the crash occurred.
Head of school, Dr. John Gredy, says it's been a very difficult day for both students and staff.
“This, as you can imagine, is very disturbing news,” said Dr. Gredy.
Williamitis played in the school band and was a member of the wrestling team.
Dr. Gredy says he was the kind of student who helped others, like his classmates in industrial arts.
"He kind of came to their rescue… He was well loved,” said Dr. Gredy.
Ohio 48 was closed for several hours Tuesday morning while troopers conducted their investigation.
As that was going on, students at Dayton Christian were learning of the loss of a friend and classmate.
Dr. Gredy says following a tragedy such as this, you just have to keep going.
Tommy Williamitis was a wrestler. There will still be wrestling practice on Tuesday. The coach wants to gather with teammates.
There is also a basketball game. It was said that it's important for everyone to just be together and be there for each other.
47-year-old Terry Vandeberg of Centerville was hurt in the crash. She's at Miami Valley Hospital and troopers say her injuries are very serious. They also say she was not wearing a seatbelt.
