Man shot in car becomes 133rd Columbus homicide victim

A young man was killed when an number of people used "assault rifles and handguns" to open fire on a car in southeast Columbus late Wednesday night, police said.

Officers found Des'Juan Johnson, 20, on the side of the road in the area of Frebis Avenue and Alum Creek Drive around 10:48 p.m. He died at Grant Medical Center at 12:11 am, police said.

Johnson and Cameron Simpson, 18, were together in a car near 2141 Alum Creek Drive when shots were fired towards the vehicle, police said.

Investigators said they didn't have details on a motive or suspects.

Johnson is the city's 133rd homicide victim of 2017.
