COLUMBUS, Ohio (WSYX) — Columbus Police said a 17-year-old girl has died after she was shot Thursday evening in southeast Columbus.
Officers responded to the shooting around 5:15 p.m. Thursday in the area of 4611 Refugee Road.
Columbus Police said when officers arrived, they located 17-year-old Yazmink Speer suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. She was taken to Mt. Carmel East in critical condition. Police said she succumbed to her injuries early Friday morning.
Police have arrested and chargedDeVaugh Morgan, 24, with murder.
This is the eighth homicide in Columbus in 2021 and police are asking anyone with information on the shooting to call the Columbus Police Homicide Unit at 614-645-4730.
