Sleeping child left on Reynoldsburg school bus, driver resigns
A Reynoldsburg City Schools bus driver is stepping down after leaving a student behind.
The district says it happened on Monday during the midday bus route. They say the bus driver failed to do a post-drive inspection and failed to find a sleeping child.
The driver gave his resignation letter on Wednesday, and the district released this statement:
On the afternoon of Monday, October 22, 2018, school district administration was informed of an incident whereby one of our drivers left a student on a school bus following the midday bus route on that same day. Upon gaining knowledge of the incident, the driver was immediately removed from any routes and placed on administrative leave while we began our investigation. During our investigation, we discovered that the driver failed to conduct a post-drive inspection of the bus and, therefore, failed to discover that a sleeping student was still on the bus. The student was discovered still sleeping on the bus by students who were being picked up for dismissal from school and was returned home safely.
The district says the resignation will be approved at the next school board meeting and that the child is fine.
The bus driver's name isn't being released at this time.
