Loretta Lake grew such a large watermelon in her east Columbus backyard, that her neighbors and family told her she had to tell somebody.

"They said we've never seen any watermelons in Columbus this big," she said.

So, she called ABC6/FOX28.

Somehow the watermelon grew so much in her backyard, it now weighs in at more than 30 pounds.

Lake and her husband recently moved back to Columbus.

"We bought the house," said Lake, "I had a garden two years in a row and everything that planted was just off the hook."

She's always been a gardener, but nothing like this.

She said the vines took over her Berwick area yard.

"If you can see this whole spot, this is all where the watermelon was," she said.

Ever since, she told ABC6/FOX28, it's been the buzz of the neighborhood.

"Somebody said 'oh it's in the soil, you are good with growing things,' and then my brother-in-law says, 'no, I think it's divine, that's a gift you have,' you know, I don't really know, but it is exciting," said Lake.

Her hope is that anyone listening, pulls a little inspiration out of the ground.

"If you have a passion for something, and I love to garden, whatever it is, give it a try," she said, "you never know what is going to come of it."

Lake said they are planning to have another backyard garden next year.
