COLUMBUS, Ohio — The Columbus Division of Police are currently on the scene of a deadly crash in west Columbus.
The two victims were pronounced dead at 5:03 pm, according to Columbus Police. Columbus Police have clarified that there are two deaths, not three.
The accident happened on Sawmill Road at the I-270 WB ramp. The ramp was shut down for hours as the Accident Investigative Unit investigated the wreck.
Police said the man driving the sedan died, and so did a woman in the passenger seat.
They said when it was pouring rain, the car slid off the road and hit the pole. Police are not releasing the victim's identities until their families are notified.
Drivers stuck in the traffic told ABC6/FOX28 they hadn't seen a wreck that bad.
"Makes you realize, you know, how quickly things can change and you know how much you should really take advantage of every day you have," said Gregory Chastain, who lives in Dublin.
Multiple drivers pulled off the road to see the damage.
"You can see the pole looks it is right on the driver's seat with how hard they hit," he said.
The ramp to Sawmill Road reopened after being closed for several hours.
ABC6/FOX28 will continue to investigate this developing story.
