Worthington man killed in I-70 crash
BELMONT COUNTY, Ohio (WTOV) -- According to the Ohio State Highway Patrol, the passenger, 51-year-old Jeffrey McClurg, of Worthington, Ohio was ejected and was killed.
Meanwhile the driver, 58-year-old Leslie Caruso, was taken to the hospital and later released.
One person has died following a Thursday morning accident along I-70 in Belmont County.
The accident happened around just after 10:30 west of St. Clairsville near exit 213.
According to the Ohio State Highway Patrol, it was a result of one vehicle trying to pass another.
"The vehicle was travelling eastbound and was overtaking another vehicle that was in the right lane. The overtaken vehicle changed lanes and forced the passing vehicle over the roadway and into the median," explained Lt. James Faunda of the OSHP.
The car rolled multiple times and the passenger was ejected from the vehicle.
Faunda says the passenger died as a result.
The driver was taken to the hospital with minor injuries.
Meanwhile, I-70 westbound was closed during cleanup, backing up traffic for miles. Eastbound was slowed as well.
Faunda says they plan to look at the crash from all angles before any charges are filed.
"We've made contact with the other vehicle,” Faunda said. “They've been very cooperative. We're trying to figure out exactly what went on, on their end of this crash. Then we'll proceed from there as far as possible charges."
The investigation is ongoing.
