COLUMBUS, Ohio (WSYX/WTTE) - Protests have been a common occurrence around Columbus after the election of Donald Trump as president. Until Monday evening, they were non-violent.

In a Twitter video posted by The Lantern, an anti-Trump protester is giving a speech with a bullhorn at the Ohio Union - the student union at Ohio State University - when a man charges down the stairs and tackles him from behind.

University administrators have been proactive in enabling students' right to express their grievances and protest peacefully after the outcome of the presidential election.

“We protect First Amendment rights actively, but we do not under any circumstances tolerate intimidation or threats to students, faculty, staff or visitors to our campus,” said University President Michael Drake in an email sent Saturday evening.

The protester, Timothy Adams, hurt his left hand in the incident, and his glasses and bullhorn were shattered, The Lantern reports.

The student, Shane Stanton, was arrested and placed under indefinite suspension, according to Gerard Basalla, the Undergraduate Student Government president.
