COLUMBUS, Ohio (WSYX/WTTE) -- A trooper with the Ohio State Highway Patrol was commended for risking his well-being to prevent a wrong-way driver from causing harm to motorists on I-71.

In a dash cam video posted to the law enforcement agency's Facebook page, officials said Sgt. Robert Burd tried to stop the driver of a pickup headed in the wrong direction on the interstate back on October 7. Sgt. Burd used his cruiser to push the pickup off the roadway into the median. The driver was able to briefly escape from the median only for the Sgt. Burd to stop him again as another trooper arrived for backup moments later.

The State Highway Patrol awarded Sgt. Burd a Certificate of Recognition for his efforts.

It remains unclear where exactly on I-71 the incident happened. Messages to the Ohio State Highway Patrol weren't immediately returned.
