Weather won't keep Buckeye Nation from the Spring Game
"Tennessee Jeff" has sat in the rain, wind, cold and snow to watch every Ohio State Football Spring Game since 2001 — so Saturday's weather forecast wouldn't keep him from attending unless the game was cancelled.
It wasn't. The "Scarlet vs. Gray" match-up was only re-scheduled for two hours earlier to avoid potential severe weather, which means Tennesee Jeff will be in his seat at 11:45 am for kickoff of Ohio State's LiFE Sports Spring Game Presented By Nationwide.
"In (former coach Jim) Tressel's second year, it was snowing sideways. It was freezing, and they still played," said the popular super fan, who makes regular appearances by phone on 97.1 The Fan. "All we worry about is, 'are ya coming or not?'"
Jeff is, along with tens of thousands of other fans who will make the yearly springtime trek to Columbus to watch the team scrimmage. Several dozen converged on Conrad's College Gifts shop Friday to scoop up any new Buckeyes gear that's available, like schedule T-shirts and magnets.
Rachel Leier came from Texas on other business, but she bought four tickets to the Spring Game as soon as she was able. On Friday, she purchased a new jacket for her husband to wear in the elements.
"We'll go either way, rain or shine," she said. "It just feels like home when I'm back here, and when I meet the people it all feels like home."
Kickoff at The Shoe will be at 11:45 am on Saturday morning. To make way for the new time, the Buckeye men's lacrosse game against Michigan was moved to Friday evening.
