SAN ANTONIO - A family in Devine says a woman saved her granddaughter's life when she got between the girl and a dog during an attack at her home last week.

Emily Cashion, 5, was at her grandmother's house when she was attacked by a German Shepherd dog on New Year's Eve. Emily suffered severe bite wounds to her face and neck, but her grandmother immediately jumped in between the girl and the dog to protect her.

The grandmother also suffered wounds in the attack, but Emily's family said grandma's quick actions saved her life.

Emily was treated at a San Antonio hospital where she underwent hours of surgery. She was released on Thursday.

Her father says Emily has a long road to recovery, but says well-wishes will lift her spirits. The family is asking for cards from the public.
