Registered "violent" sex offender found on Sequatchie County school grounds with kids
Police in Dunlap say they've arrested a registered sex offender for being on school grounds. And police say the woman he was with had no idea about his past.
A post on the DPD's Facebook page says Friday morning, Sequatchie County Detective Clifford Camp found 37-year-old Jonathan Eric Kelly driving a van with three children inside.
Kelly is classified as a Violent Against Children Sex Offender, and is not allowed to be on school property or to be around children.
Police say Kelly got out of prison last November, and is currently on probation with the Tennessee Bureau of Probation and Parole. He's also required to wear an ankle GPS monitor.
Detective Camp performed a traffic stop on Kelly near the intersection of Elm St and Buddy Skyles Road in Dunlap.
Police say the mother of the children was also in the vehicle with Kelly. Police say Kelly was not related to the children and that the woman had only recently met him. She told officers she wasn't aware that Kelly was a sex offender.
Detective Camp arrested Kelly for violating the Tennessee Sexual Offender Registry and transported to the Sequatchie County Jail where he is now being held without bond.
NewsChannel 9 looked up Kelly's prior arrest history on the sex offender registry website.
In February of 2011, he was charged with exploitation of a minor by electronic means and aggravated rape of a child. In July, 2001, he was charged with aggravated sexual battery.
