COLUMBUS, Ohio (WSYX/WTTE) - Ryan Lochte has been suspended for 10 months by the United States Olympic Committee following his vandalism of a Rio de Janeiro gas station and an embellished story claiming he was robbed at gunpoint, according to a report from TMZ.

The decision was a collaboration of sorts with the International Olympic Committee and USA Swimming. The punishment for the 12-time Olympic medalist will also include other sanctions, according to the report.

Lochte - a contestant on the upcoming season of “Dancing with the Stars” - was already going to take time away from swimming after the Rio Olympics. The biggest consequence from the suspension will include missing out on the 2017 world championships in Budapest, Hungary.

The 32-year-old's punishment is more severe than one given to fellow American swimming star Michael Phelps, who was banned for six months after a drunk driving conviction.
