Firefighter cradles baby after medical emergency with her pregnant mother
CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WSYX/WTTE) -- A heartwarming image of a Tennessee firefighter comforting a baby girl is going viral.
According to the Chattanooga Fire Department's Facebook page, Captain Chris Blazek was in the shower at the fire hall after helping put out a house fire on Saturday when he was dispatched a car incident on the highway.
He said a pregnant mother was hysterical due to abdominal and back pain while her three children -- ages 4 months to 7 years -- were in the backseat. Captain Blazek said both older children were fine, but the infant was also screaming hysterically. Blazek pulled the baby out of her car seat to make sure she was okay when she immediately laid her head on his shoulder.
Feeling his unit had things were under control at the scene, Blazek said he took a break with his "new friend," who immediately fell asleep in his arms.
The mother was taken to the hospital while firefighters stayed with the children until other family members arrived.
"It's moments like this, that I am reminded, this is why I do the job," he said.
