Think you're brr-ave enough to take a daring dip for charity? Ron Greenbaum, better known as "The Basement Doctor," encourages the community to join Special Olympics Ohio for the 16th annual Columbus Polar Plunge on Saturday, February 2, 2019, at EXPRESS Live!
The event, presented by The Basement Doctor, benefits the 23,000 Special Olympics athletes in the state of Ohio. Participants raise money to earn the privilege of jumping right off the EXPRESS Live! stage and into the frigid waters of the Polar Plunge Pool, which will be set up in the "pit" area of the amphitheater's outdoor performance space. Immediately after an individual or group takes the plunge, they are escorted indoors to a warm dressing room so that they can kick the chill and return to watch the festivities.
Before the event, plungers are encouraged to enter the annual Polar Plunge Costume Contest—prizes are awarded for creativity and overall wackiness.
Anyone afraid to jump into the icy water is invited to register as "Too Chicken to Plunge." Chickens are awarded a t-shirt and official permission to NOT Plunge, so regardless of your views on the cold, everyone is welcome to take part in this exciting and important charity event.
Diving in to support the community is very familiar to "The Basement Doctor." Since 1987, Greenbaum and his team have supported many charity organizations, all of which are near to his heart. As a home improvement contractor, Greenbaum feels strongly that he should better the community in which his customers live.
"When we become involved with an organization, we not only contribute monetarily, but we also leverage our assets to help generate awareness and encourage participation in fundraising events," says Greenbaum. "The Basement Doctor Cares! Volunteer Program allows our employees to donate their time to causes that are important or personal to them and the company. We are the winner of the 2016 Columbus Business First Corporate Caring Award, and we are truly honored. Giving back is the core of what this company is all about, and we want to provide for the people and institutions that need it most."
The Columbus Polar Plunge is a family-friendly event, and spectators are welcome to come and witness it all, free of charge. There will also be activities with community partners and food trucks at the brand-new Columbus Plungefest, so get those bathing suits out of storage and take the plunge for a great cause!
Participants can find more information and register at ColumbusPolarPlunge.org.
