COLUMBUS, Ohio (WSYX/WTTE) - Cleveland fans are a unique breed.

Make them proud and there's nothing they won't do to help. Today's proof?

Ryan Merritt spent most of his season pitching for the Columbus Clippers. He made his second major-league start Wednesday for the Cleveland Indians in Game 5 of the American League Championship Series in Toronto. He threw 4 1/3 shutout innings in a tense situation that included Blue Jays slugger Jose Bautista saying Merritt would be shaking in his boots on the mound. Once Cleveland won the game to advance to the World Series, Merritt became a fan favorite.

Thursday, national baseball writer Jonah Keri tweeted a link to a wedding registry for Merritt and Sarah Brushaber. Turns out it was the right Ryan Merritt. Cleveland fans have responded to Merritt's clutch start for the Indians by doing their part to buy the couple items off their wedding registry from Target and Pottery Barn, and having them delivered to the address listed with the registry. It's almost been completely fulfilled.
