Crew SC: Berhalter believes in "collective" not star power as Zardes takes MLS goal lead
COLUMBUS -- Crew SC Sporting Director and Head Coach Gregg Berhalter doesn't need a star because his use of the collective as he calls it seems to be working well.
The Black and Gold are a third of the way into the 2018 MLS season and are currently second in the Eastern Conference, behind only Atlanta.
Even Gyasi Zardes is reluctant to take any status as a the team's best player or entertain the word star as he is tied for the league lead in goals scored with eight. "I am a reflection of the group," Zardes told reporters Tuesday. "It is hard work to have the goalie start the push, then the backline and the midfield to get the ball for me to score."
The Crew SC on the road Saturday night at New England. The team is 6-3-3 on the season, the best start under Berhalter.
They return to Mapfre Stadium June 2nd against Toronto FC.
