The Football Fever: Bucks open spring drills with fascination over next quarterback
COLUMBUS -- Urban Meyer said he doesn't know who the next Buckeye quarterback will be but he does know he has three players who think they can be the guy.
Dwayne Haskins came off the bench to rally Ohio State past Michigan last season and would appear to be the heir apparent to the departed record holder J.T. Barrett.
Joe Burrow and Tate Martell will also have something to say about Meyer's decision. Burrow could even transfer possibly as he graduates in the spring and could transfer without sitting out. Meyer said he understands Burrow deserves a verdict at the end of spring ball. "My first obligation is to Ohio State but certainly the family and player are next."
Meyer says competitiveness, toughness, leadership and intelligence are the qualities he's looking for in his 2018 starting quarterback.
Meyer told reporters his greatest concern is over the center position where Billy Price is NFL bound after winning the Rimington Trophy. "That's as important as the quarterback position," added Meyer. Among the candidates there is Brady Taylor, Josh Meyers, Matt Burrell and Josh Alabi.
The Buckeyes returns 13 starters from the Cotton Bowl Championship team of 2017.
